About Us
Guitar For Life Studio is located in beautiful and historic downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin, the home of the legendary Les Paul. Opened in 2008, GFLS is committed to guitar training at all levels and abilities. The goal is always to get the beginner to start playing, the intermediate player to strive to improve, and the advanced player to expand their current vocabulary to become the most rounded guitarist that they can be.
The training offered at GFLS is multi-faceted. First the student, beginner to advanced, must understand their instrument. They need to grasp the path that they have chosen and that starts with a solid foundation in guitar theory, along with discovering the intricacies of their chosen instrument. Next, the student needs to understand their fretboard and the capabilities of their instrument. To understand the endless possibilities that are available for creating music on the guitar opens up their minds to what they can accomplish. Finally, the student is put on their path. They set their own goals and their teachers guide them there. This is done through a steady diet of theory, technique, and application.
Each teacher is different, as is each student, therefore GFLS offers many styles of lessons to accommodate our students. We are very proud of our beginner programs which can either be taken in a group setting or individually. We have technically advanced studies that work on the coordination of both the left and right hands to improve dexterity on the instrument. There are seminars throughout the year which specialize in one area or another such as Theory, Scales and Modes, and Songwriting. These programs are expanding fast therefore we have added two more studios for teachers and have made our entrance as large as possible to accommodate the expansion.
GFLS continues to focus on our students and our community. In our first year we had 5 students play out at our various functions that had never played in front of people before. We also have thrown benefits and concerts for local charities, the last one being in March 2010 to support Cystic Fibrosis. Our other benefits have included the American Cancer Society. Our staff works with the Downtown Development Group to help with various endeavors, and we have partnered with some extremely wonderful companies such as Creative Bone Artwork, The Tom Hess Music Corporation, Club Velvet, and Rooters Nightclub to ensure that we can be a leader in giving back to our community.
