September 2009 GFLS NEWS
Happy Anniversary to Guitar for Life Studio!!!
We are celebrating our ONE YEAR anniversary in September. When I look back on this past year I cannot help but laugh. We walked into 266 W. Broadway on a whim and it was a dirty, black painted, shell of a storefront. The Landlord did not even want to show it to us. Patty and I rolled up our sleeves and got to work. We threw some paint on the walls. Laid some carpet and brought in gear. We made some cards and posters. We told anyone that would listen that I was back playing guitar and that we were opening the coolest guitar instruction place in town!!
Unbelievable things happened then. Mike Mann of Man Down and Music Man Studio stepped in and helped with some added electric and a sign out front and let us use some furniture. Referrals came pouring in from guitar players throughout the city, including Scott Masters of Tattooed and Gear Box and Michael Sean of Bellevue Suite. We were able to throw our first Guitar Night in February where our students actually PLAYED OUT with some of the best musicians in the city, a couple of which just started playing guitar 2 months earlier!! What a testament to our student’s dedication and discipline!
In June, we added Jeremy Jayson as a teacher on staff. He has responded with a full plate of new students to our community. Guitar for Life took Guitar Night to a whole new level in August by throwing a benefit, Guitar Night to Fight Cancer, and with the help of our amazing and wonderful musician and artist friends, we were able to raise over $1000 on a Thursday night for The American Cancer Society, and our friends, the Flanagan’s. We just expanded and have 2 more studios for teachers built in our basement, The Abyss. Rick Marteney, an old friend and bandmate, surprised us all by presenting us with www.guitarforlifestudio.com. To top off the year, Jeremy and I are judging the Guitar Center “King of the Blues” competition, with the Finals happening tonight.
We want to start the next year on a high note. For any new students that start with me in September, I will give them a free lesson a month for the rest of 2009!! Also, any new referrals that are made by my students will get them the same deal!!! There are limited spots open (and restrictions apply), so get your requests in early!! If you do not have a guitar yet, WE HAVE CONNECTIONS!!! Mike V. at Guitar Center in Brookfield has already set up at least 3 of my students with great gear at a great price. I will make sure you have a direct line to the guy that will SET YOU UP!
This Saturday, we are having an OPEN HOUSE during Art Fest. We will be there from 9 - ?!?!?. You can enjoy beautiful and historic downtown Waukesha, check out any number of wonderful art galleries, grab a coffee or some chocolate or some popcorn or some Mexican food, or a cold beverage…do you get the point?!?! We hope to see you all very soon and as always…
KEEP PRACTICING!!!
